Q: Where are you from?A: I was born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan and went to school from kindergarten through 12th grade in the small town of Dexter. I grew up always wanting to go to University of Michigan, but realized around age 16 that I wanted to get away! For the past four years I’ve been working on my bachelors degree in journalism and advertising at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.
Q: Favorite food?
A: Pizza! With bacon, tomato and pineapple. Preferably with breadsticks and diet coke, but I don’t think I will be getting to enjoy that over the next 3 months.
Q: When you’re not working with LACES, where can we find you?
A: Running, playing ultimate Frisbee, playing soccer, and basically doing anything outdoors!
Q: First impressions of Liberia?
A: Incredible! It’s only my third day here and I love it already. Liberian food is delicious! I have never been out of the country before (besides Canada) and it is fascinating to see the way other people live. I love meeting new people and learning about their culture!
Q: Why did you choose to intern with LACES?
A: Ever since I worked with the organization “Invisible Children” in high school, I’ve wanted to go to Africa. But since I started college, that dream’s been on the backburner. My senior year I realized it was now or never, and decided to make it happen. Through a friend I heard about Seren, who’s also a Ball State graduate, and the work she was doing with LACES. I emailed her right away and asked if she had a place for a communications intern, and she said yes!
